Stone Haven Home

Designed in collaboration with H & H Home Builders, this custom home in North Liberty, Iowa was thoughtfully created as a forever home for homeowners relocating from Oregon to begin their retirement surrounded by family. Emily Hughes led the interior design process, guiding every interior and exterior finish selection while also furnishing the home through Mix Home. The scope included custom millwork drawings, lighting selection and placement, finish specifications, and new furnishings chosen to compliment the clients’ existing pieces, resulting in a cohesive home that balances timeless style with everyday livability.

The design blends modern farmhouse architecture with warm contemporary details, pairing natural white oak cabinetry with crisp white finishes, smoky blue and green accents, soft natural stone, and layered textures to create an inviting, sophisticated palette. Throughout the home, custom millwork, tailored cabinetry, and thoughtfully selected lighting provide architectural interest while maintaining a relaxed, approachable feel.

Designed with entertaining and multigenerational living in mind, the home features a spacious chef’s kitchen, an organized walk-in pantry, and a lower-level bar that create natural gathering spaces for family and friends. Private retreats, including a serene primary suite with a spa-inspired bathroom featuring a freestanding soaking tub and expansive walk-in shower, offer moments of quiet luxury. The lower level was planned to welcome visiting grandchildren with generous sleeping accommodations, while a playful bunk room bath introduces whimsical patterned tile and arched mirrors that add personality without sacrificing timeless appeal.

Every detail was carefully considered to create a home that feels elevated yet comfortable—a place designed not only for beautiful everyday living, but for making lasting memories with generations to come.
