The Wooden Modern
This whole home renovation was designed for a growing family seeking to expand and elevate their living spaces while maintaining a strong connection to their home’s natural surroundings. Partnering with the Mix Home design team, Bo Wood Company and Trevor Parks Construction, the clients set out to reimagine their existing home with a focus on functionality, comfort, and cohesive design.
Key goals included enlarging the kitchen, adding a walk-in pantry and sunroom, expanding the primary bath and closet, reconfiguring the shared mudroom and laundry area, redesigning the fireplace surround, and curating all interior finishes, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and furnishings. The result is a warm and welcoming home rooted in a mountain modern aesthetic—featuring natural materials, organic textures, and a color palette inspired by the home’s private, wooded setting.
Strategic layout enhancements—such as sliding glass doors between the sunroom and dining area—allow for natural light to flow while offering the flexibility to close off spaces for privacy or sound control without compromising the home’s overall openness.

Lead Designer
Megan Hanus
Interior Designer, Megan Hanus, graduated from the accredited interior design program at the University of Northern Iowa. Well before her college years, Megan was very creative – a trait she took over from her mother, who is a photographer.
Megan worked as a commercial designer for six years before switching over to the residential side of interior design. She loves the technology aspects that help her with the design process and enjoys keeping up with the latest interior design programs and technology.
Her two personal favorite design styles are Mid-Century Modern and Modern Traditional but enjoys working with her clients on whatever their personal style may be. She also loves to find design inspiration by traveling, following talented designers on Instagram, and through fashion and nature.
In Megan’s free time, she enjoys golfing and traveling with her husband, JJ.
